Teaching History
The last 3 years have brought a lot of change and adjustment for my piano teaching operation, Open Lid Piano Studio. As a teacher and business owner, every effort is made to bring the highest standards of conduct and professionalism to my teaching. All the while, I want to remain accessible and personal as I work with all my students and their parents.
Koreatown LA has been good to me. I started teaching at Camellia Avenue Elementary School in North Hollywood. That experience led to also teaching at Gabriella Charter School, a wonderful dance-themed school that started in Koreatown but is now in Echo Park. Then I taught at Gates Street School in Lincoln Heights. From there I also taught at an afterschool program called Trinity Academy in Koreatown.
I technically began teaching at the age of 16 when an adult friend asked me to teach her 13-year-old daughter.
However, in 2014, is when I officially started Open Lid Piano Studio and truly when all-in on being a private piano teacher with my own leased commercial space. As much as I loved the students and teachers within the LAUSD, there were some insurmountable frustrations associated with teaching in the school district. So, after I had some years of experience teaching K-5 as a classroom teacher, I decided to create a studio where I could truly control every element of the curriculum.
Open Lid also started in an office building in Koreatown for 11 years. Then, one year in Downtown Los Angeles. After the sheer devastation of the COVID pandemic, I'm not set to open a new studio location in La Crescenta.
I'm excited to begin a new era now getting involved with and working with a new community in the Los Angeles area.
